Saturday February 25th, experience the coolest fundraiser under the sun as Big Splash Water Park hosts the 2012 Polar Plunge! The yearly event is coordinated by the Law Enforcement Torch Run, an international charity that raises money and awareness for Special Olympics. Each year, they challenge individuals and groups to “do some freezin’ for a reason,” that is, jump into an icy body of water for a cause greater than themselves. Pledges that they collect from family, friends, and businesses, directly benefit the Special Olympics program.

You too can accept the challenge on Saturday, February 25th at Big Splash Water Park, 21st and Yale. Registration is at 10am followed by the Polar Plunge at 11 a.m.

WHAT SHRINERS DO

Some think Shriners are those guys who always have those parades with the wild costumes and funny little cars and host the circus, but many aren’t aware of the the Shriners Hosptials and the free care they provide to children.

There are 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children — 18 orthopedic hospitals, 3 burn hospitals and 1 hospital that provides orthopedic, burn and spinal cord injury care. These hospitals have cured or substantially helped more than 650,000 children, at no cost to parent or child, since the first Shriner Hospital opened in 1922.

Akdar Shrine Center in Northeast Oklahoma currently has over 2,000 members and has transported several children to our surrounding Shrine Hospitals.
